EVOLUTION OF A MACHINE Espresso machine manufacturer La Marzocco used last month's SCAA show in Boston to unveil the latest addition to its Linea line, the Linea PB. The machine's initials are an homage to Piero Bambi, who designed the company's Linea Classic nearly 25 years ago. (Bambi has helped design every Marzocco machine since then.) The latest Linea features improved component longevity and greater barista control over boiler temperature and brewing volume. 206/706-9104. lamarzoccousa.com FOODIE FOCUS Rhode Island roaster Dave's Coffee added a pair of flavors to its coffee syrup line, which it launched in 2012 and which won the People's Choice Award for packaging at last month's SCAA show. The two new varieties—Mocha and Decaf—join Original and Vanilla in the company's syrup lineup. The products are crafted with cold-brew coffee, giving users the ability to bring quality coffee flavor into dessert recipes and chilled drinks. davescoffee.com QUALITY-MINDED ADDITION Coffee Quality Institute has added Trish Rothgeb to its team. Rothgeb, who is also the owner and roastmaster of San Francisco's Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, has worked in roasting for more than 20 years, including stints at Norway's Kaffa and Seattle's Zoka Coffee. At CQI, she will be responsible for developing and implementing CQI's activities and strategies to increase the number of students enrolled in Q programs internationally. The Q program is part of CQI's Q Coffee System, an internationally recognized program for evaluating cup quality based on a standardized system using SCAA cupping protocols. 541/9800041. coffeeinstitute.org POD-ERN DESIGN Belgium-based Belmoca is looking to bring a touch of elegance to the pod-coffee market with a home and office espresso machine called Belina that uses unique capsule technology and features a sleek, modern look.
